telc Deutsch A1 is the right exam for you if you have little or no knowledge of German. The telc Deutsch A2 exam builds on prior knowledge and provides the basic undestanding of the German language.

What can you do at A1 level?

At level A1, you can understand and use familiar and everyday expressions and simple phrases that meet basic needs. You are able to communicate in a simple way if the other person speaks slowly, clearly and is supportive. You can also introduce yourself and others, ask questions about personal information and answer such questions yourself.


How is the exam structured?

The exam consists of a written and an oral part. The written exam lasts 60 minutes. The oral exam lasts 15 minutes.


Written exam (from 08:30 AM)

  • Reading comprehension and writing - 45 mins
  • Listening comprehension - 20 mins

 Oral exam  (from 01:00 PM)

  • usually together with another participant
  • 15 mins

What can you do at A2 level?

At level A2, you can understand frequently used expressions. You are able to describe your origins, education and topics related to immediate needs. You can also communicate in simple, routine situations that require a direct exchange of information about familiar and everyday things.


How is the exam structured?

The exam consists of a written and an oral part. The written exam lasts 70 minutes. The oral exam lasts 15 minutes.
